Procedure
The National Immigration Administration issued an announcement on December 17th, 2024, fully relaxing and optimizing the transit visa-free policy.
The stay duration for foreign nationals eligible for visa-free transit has been extended from the previous 72 hours and 144 hours to 240 hours (10 days). Additionally, 21 ports of entry and exit have been added for visa-free transit individuals, further expanding the allowed areas for visa-free transit travelers.
Individuals from 55 eligible countries, including Indonesia, Russia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Canada, traveling from China to a third country (region), can enter visa-free through any of the 60 open ports in 24 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), and stay within the allowed areas for visa-free transit travelers for no more than 240 hours.
· Citizens of 55 countries that are eligible for transit visa exemption policies.
· Hold a valid international travel document with a validity of at least three months and meet the requirements for entering a third country (region).
· Hold interline passenger tickets or other documents with a specified date and seat within 240 hours, complete the Arrival Card for Temporary Entry Foreigners, and cooperate with checks and inquiries by exit-entry border inspection authorities.
· Europe (40 countries): Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Monaco, Russia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, Belarus, and Norway.
· America (6 countries): the United States of America, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile.
· Oceania (2 countries): Australia and New Zealand.
· Asia (7 countries): Republica of Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Indonesia.
· Valid passport issued by 55 countries mentioned above
· Visa for a third country or region
· A fully completed Arrival/Departure Card (including name, nationality, passport no., visa no., issuance place, flight no., purpose of visit, date of birth, gender)
· An onward ticket with confirmed seat is needed

· Inform the airlines when boarding
· Fill an Arrival / Departure Card
· Apply the 240-hour permit
· Claim the luggage and go through the custom
· Leave airport
For those with passports or other international travel documents valid for less than 3 months, or who have illegal entry and exit, illegal residence, or illegal employment situations within five years, the NIA shall not issue temporary entry permits.
Upon arrival, find the 240-hour visa-free counter at the immigration inspection to apply for the stay permit, which will be stamped in your passport indicating the maximum length of stay. Remember to tell the officer if you have a visa for China but don't want to use it this time.
